One last breakfast aboard Azure before we headed back to Athens. Waffles, ham and cheese grilled sandwiches, eggs and bacon, orange and grapefruit juice, toast, and such. After breakfast we all headed to our cabins to pack up. Once docked, Captain Niko presented us with gifts, very unexpected. We each got an official Azure cap, and the girls received a diffuser, its scent sure to remind us all of our wonderful trip. We had a final photo taken of all of us (see below) and made our farewells, teary-eyed. We all had a magnificent time on the cruise, and a huge part of that was the easy interaction with our crew. A couple more days and they would have been practically family.

We arrived at the hotel several hours before check-in time, but that was fine as we had scheduled a tour of the Acropolis to begin at noon. Our guide Katerine appeared on time, when we learned that this would be a walking tour, and walk we did. We walked to the Acropolis, up the Acropolis to the Parthenon and the temple of Athena, around the other various sights, down the Acropolis to the museum, through the museum (which had many amazing artifacts from the site), then headed back to the hotel, stopping at a street-side restaurant for another dunch (or linner), where ibuprofen was the the main entry! “Better living through chemistry!”

Back at the hotel we turned in at about 8:00 pm knowing we were being picked up at 3:30 AM for our ride to the airport. More on that in the next (and final) post.

I don’t know why we are all smiling – none of us wanted to leave!
The Parthenon. Our guide told us that compared to the summer season, this is NOT a crowd. There were people everywhere.
The temple of Athena, the protector of Athens.
The Acropolis as seen from inside the museum.
