Diane

It’s our last full day on the boat, and we did a lot of lounging, swimming, and lounging. We went to a quiet bay with the idea that it would be a good place to go swimming, but it took quite a while for us to get into the water. Maria readily jumped in, as she always does, to tether us to the rocks. It’s amazing that she can just go without any hesitation, no matter the temperature. Not so for the rest of us, although Skip seems less skittish. The breeze was so cool that unless you were standing out in the full sun, it wasn’t really hot at all. Skip/Jim went snorkeling as usual and saw some brightly colored fish (who knows what they were) and some weeds on the bottom. Then, Tom, Deb, Val, and I all got in and swam around the boat for our daily exercise. For me, I think this is more swimming in one week than I’ve done in the past twenty or, maybe, thirty years. Treading water is pretty simple, but with salt water, it’s really easy. No significant effort required.

We decided to have linner or dunch, whichever you’d like to call it, between three and four in the afternoon. Having had a late breakfast, we figured there’d be no need for both lunch and supper, so this was perfect. George did a barbecue, and we had meatballs, sausage, lamb, chicken, steak, and grilled cheese, not to mention salad, potatoes, and I can’t even remember what else. Skip ate his fill of lamb and said he wanted the leftover chops for breakfast. The rest of us were much more circumspect.

Tonight was a little last-minute shopping and, now, card games. Deborah and I babbled while the rest of them started with rf/rat f**k/screw your neighbor/rodent copulation, and now they’ve moved on to bridge. Of course, there’s the usual moaning about yet another absolutely terrible hand, as well as the complaint that if only someone had played the cards in the other order, it would have worked out perfectly. (There was no way to know.)

The weather, which we thought was going to be rainy, has turned out just fine. About five minutes of light rain hardly mattered, and we have a beautiful sky and full moon to moan and groan over the cards.

Oh, yes. In our swimming location, we saw a school of small, skinny, gray fish. We threw some bread into the water and watched mayhem ensue as they converged on the bread and bumped heads with one another. There was one gray fish who kept swimming to the bread and then passing it by. We couldn’t quite figure out if he was full, disdainful, gluten-free, or just plain stupid.

We’re in Poros for the night. It’s been so much fun.

Entering the port of Poros.
What an absolutely fabulous day!
Some of the boats lined up at the dock in Poros. Diane is exiting the Azure.
Diane seemed to spend an inordinate amount of time in this position!
Tom took this photo last night. Just spectacular as is everything.
